Joseph Sax

Joseph Sax stands as one of Uganda’s leading saxophonists, celebrated for his electrifying performances and unique blend of jazz, reggae, and Ugandan rhythms. With deep roots in music, Joseph’s journey began in his childhood, inspired by his mother’s church singing. At just 10 years old, he joined a brass band, where he honed his skills in reading, writing, and playing various instruments, including drums, trumpet, and of course, the saxophone.

A dedicated full-time musician, songwriter, producer, and composer, Joseph’s artistry has earned him numerous accolades. He was honored as the Best Instrumentalist at the 2019-2020 International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) and was a nominee for the same award in 2018-2019. In 2022, he clinched the High Skool Award for Best Instrumentalist in Kampala, cementing his place as a musical force in East Africa.

Joseph Sax’s music is synonymous with both innovation and soul. His debut albums, Koona and The Duvet Xperience (in collaboration with Myko Ouma), have captivated listeners with their fusion of jazz and African soundscapes. He has also lent his saxophone mastery to live performances alongside renowned artists such as Dr. Ron Kenoly, Micah Stampley, Paul Wilbur, Skales, Myko Ouma, Isaiah Katumwa, and top Ugandan stars like Iryn Namubiru, Spice Diana, Irene Ntale, Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine, and Janzi Band.

In October 2023, Joseph released his much-anticipated album Ascension, a 10-track instrumental worship masterpiece. A celebration of both his spiritual journey and musical evolution, Ascension is available for streaming and download on all major music platforms.
